Diuretics edema of the lungs: drugs, mechanism of action
Human lungs — the vital organ, which is often susceptible to various diseases. Diuretic pulmonary edema is widely used due to its properties of increasing the volume output from the body fluid. Often doctors use loop diuretics, which are widely distributed in the emergency treatment of different kinds of edema.
The cases of appointment of diuretics
The lungs are composed of alveoli, which are framed by small blood vessels — capillaries. For a natural life in the body continuously needs to be a process of gas exchange. In cases when the alveoli of the lungs together with the air enters the liquid, the formation of edema. The liquid mixed with air, becomes a foam that prevents the process of gas exchange. Treatment of edema occurs with diuretics, a couple with whom are appointed by the sedative, cardiac, and other drugs. In situations where the patient was not given proper care, it is not excluded fatal.
It is a medicinal product takes place on the basis of what degree of swelling is formed in the lungs, and that resulted in this complication. Often edema of the lungs are:
- acute heart failure;
- inherited diseases of the blood vessels;
- allergic reactions;
- poisoning by chemicals;
- a blood transfusion.
Some diuretic medications prescribed for edema of the lungs?
In situations when pulmonary edema occurs rapidly and progresses, and oral treatment is impossible, patients are assigned to the diuretic drugs that can be administered intravenously and intramuscularly. Often in the role of medicines acts as the most powerful loop diuretic «Furosemide». After intravenous administration the effect is observed already after 4 minutes and lasts up to 4 hours. Daily dose means is composed of 20-60 mg, however in special cases the dosage can be increased by 20-40 mg.
Doctors can prescribe a diuretic drug «Lasix», which is administered intravenously at 40 mg. the Action of this medicine starts after 2 hours from the time of application. There are other loop diuretics, which resorted to the doctor in case of edema of the lung: «Britomar», «Furosemide», «Bufenoks and Diver». When pulmonary edema begins to decrease, experts lower daily dose of diuretic or take a break in a few days, starting to enter patients another loop diuretic, but having a mild diuretic effect.
The mechanism of action of loop diuretics
The mechanism by which the body of loop diuretics is based on the relaxation of the muscles of blood vessels and increase renal blood flow due to the fact that the drugs accelerate the synthesis of prostaglandins in the endothelial cells of blood vessels. Diuretics affect countercurrent rotary mechanism of the loop of Henle (part of the nephron that connects the near and distant tubules, is responsible for the reverse absorption of water and valuable substances).
These diuretics have a strong and fast effect on the body, which could begin in a few minutes after application and last up to 10 hours, depending on the specific drug.
Medications accelerate the filtration of a liquid that does not contain protein compounds, and it enhances the diuretic effect in the body. Loop diuretics reduce back the absorption of chlorine ions, sodium and magnesium, increasing the amount of excretion from the body with urine. This type of diuretics influence renal blood flow, decreases cardiac load, and venous tone, increases the volume of urine.
